A great way to have fun with kids is by cooking together! Therefore, we’ve come up with a few child-friendly recipes for you to make.

Delicious Dirt Pudding Cups

Delicious Dirt Pudding Cups

Try out this super easy, fun, and creative recipe inspired by mud pies. The only difference is that these are actually an edible dessert!

Makes: 8 cups

What you’ll need:

  • 1 package Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 480 ml cold milk
  • 1 package chocolate instant pudding mix, small pkg. (4-serving size)
  • 240 ml whipped cream
  • 1 package gummy worms

What to do:

  • Put cookies into a sealable bag and close tightly
  • Using a rolling pin, roll and crush the cookies until crumbly. Set aside
  • Pour the milk and chocolate instant pudding mix into a large bowl
  • Whisk well until all of the pudding mix is dissolved
  • Let stand 5 minutes
  • Add the whipped cream and 1/2 of the crushed cookies
  • Stir until well blended
  • Place a large spoonful of crushed cookies into the bottoms of the plastic cups
  • Add the pudding mixture on top of that until the cups are 3/4 full
  • Add 1 large gummy worm so that it is half in the cup and half hanging out of the cup
  • Spoon in more crushed cookie around the worm to hold it in place
  • Can top with whipped cream if desired
  • Serve chilled

Easy-peasy shortbread cookies

Easy-peasy shortbread cookies

Try out this simple shortbread cookie recipe with the children for a fun activity with yummy results! Keep things playful by trying out different cookie shapes or adding bits of raisins or chocolate to the dough for an extra treat. Make sure you turn decorating the cookies into a creative activity for the kids! Let them add the icing or melted chocolate on top for a twist to a traditional and well-loved recipe.

Makes: 20 cookies

What you’ll need:

  • 1 egg
  • 100g brown sugar
  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 200g flour
  • Teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

What to do:

  • Separate the egg yolk into a mixing bowl
  • Cut up the butter into small cubes (so that it’s easier to mix)
  • Add all the ingredients into the mixing bowl and mix together with your hands until the cookie dough has a crumbly structure
  • Roll the cookie dough into a ball and wrap with cling film
  • Pop the dough in the fridge for at least 30 minutes

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350 °F)

  • Dust your countertop with some flour and roll out the dough to about 3-4 mm thickness
  • Use a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out the cookies from the dough
  • Line up the cookies onto a sheet of parchment paper
  • Place the tray of cookies onto the middle shelf of the oven and bake for around 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned
  • Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes
  • Decorate and enjoy!

Cinnamon snakes

Cinnamon snakes

Decorate your cinnamon buns like snakes, for a creative twist the kids will love! This recipe is easy, so even smaller children can help too!

Makes: 20 cinnamon snakes

What you’ll need:

Dough:

  • 400 ml milk
  • 50g yeast
  • 1100 ml flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 175 ml sugar
  • 3 tsp cardamom
  • 150g margarine

Filling:

  • Cinnamon
  • Margarine
  • Sugar (optional)

Decoration:

  • 400 ml powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Food colouring
  • Sour candy belts (for the snake's tongue)

What to do:

  • Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk
  • Mix 400 ml flour in the milk and leave for 20 minutes
  • Mix in salt, sugar, cardamom, margarine, 1 egg
  • Add the flour, little at the time
  • Knead the dough until smooth and not too sticky
  • Let the dough raise on a lightly floured surface for about half an hour

Preheat the oven to 225°C

  • Roll out the dough to approx. 1 cm thick
  • Brush the dough with margarine and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top
  • Roll up the coated dough into a cylinder shape and cut it into 20 equally sized rolls
  • Brush the outside of each rolls with egg
  • Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes
  • While baking, in a separate bowl mix the powdered sugar, water, and food colouring to make icing

Let the cinnamon buns cool off a bit before decorating them as colourful snakes!

Delicious fruit skewers

Delicious fruit skewers

Makes: 10 fruit skewers

What you’ll need:

  • 1 can of pineapple chunks in pineapple juice
  • 2 kiwis
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 mango
  • 200g (7oz) dark chocolate
  • 200ml (¾ cup) double cream

What to do:

  • Drain the pineapple chunks
  • Peel the kiwis and cut into large pieces
  • Peel the bananas and cut into large pieces
  • Peel the mango and cut into large cubes
  • Alternate the order of the fruit pieces by threading first the kiwi, then the banana, then the mango onto the skewers
  • Place the skewers onto a plate for later
  • Heat the heavy cream on a low heat and break the chocolate into pieces
  • Melt the pieces of chocolate in the cream to create a chocolate sauce, then take off the heat

Turn off the stove!

  • Pour the sauce over the skewers
  • Pop the skewers in the fridge to chill so that the chocolate can harden
  • Clear away the clutter
  • Enjoy!

Sausage rolls

Sausage rolls

Children absolutely love these sausage rolls as they are easy, and most importantly, fast to make!

Makes: 20 sausage rolls

What you’ll need

  • 20 mini frankfurters
  • 5 sheets of puff pastry

What to do:

  • Preheat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F)
  • Cut the puff pastry in pieces that are large enough to wrap around the frankfurters
  • Wrap the pieces of puff pastry around each frankfurter (don’t cover the ends of the frankfurters!)
  • Pop the sausage rolls into the oven and take out when the pastry turns golden brown
  • Leave to the sausage rolls to cool for a few minutes and enjoy!

Rocky Road

Rocky Road

Makes: 20 Rocky Road squares

What you’ll need:

  • 300g of dark cooking chocolate
  • 75g of butter
  • 1 can of sweetened-condensed milk
  • 100g of salted peanuts (or other type of preferred nuts)
  • 1 pack of small (or chopped) marshmallows

What to do:

  • Add the chocolate, butter, and condensed milk in a bowl
  • Melt in microwave and mix until one consistent texture
  • Let it cool for a few minutes
  • Add peanuts and marshmallows and mix together
  • Spread out in a pan and place in fridge for at least half a day until firm
  • Cut up into small squares and enjoy this sweet and chocolatey snack!

Homemade ice-cream

Homemade ice-cream

Makes: 6 mini ice-cream snacks

What you’ll need:

  • 6 portions of plain yogurt
  • 50g of sugar
  • 10 fresh raspberries
  • Jam
  • 6 ice-cream sticks
  • 6 ice-cream molds (which can either be bought specially for ice-cream or you can use the empty yogurt pots)

What to do:

  • In a bowl, mash together the plain yogurt, sugar and raspberries
  • Take your yogurt pots and pour a spoonful of jam into each
  • Add the raspberry yogurt to each pot
  • Stick in the popsicle sticks and leave in the freezer for at least 3 hours
  • Bon appétit !

Oreo Cheesecake

Oreo Cheesecake

Here's an easy to make, no oven required, Oreo cheesecake! Perfect for a quick desert or snack!

Makes: 1 cheesecake, 8 slices

What you’ll need:

  • 1 pack of Oreo cookies
  • 75g of butter
  • 50ml of whipped cream
  • 400g of cream cheese
  • 25g of sugar
  • 2 leaves of gelatine
  • 200g of dark cooking chocolate

What to do:

  • For the cookie base, separate the Oreos, remove the cream, and crush the cookies
  • Mix the crumbs with melted butter and spread it out at the bottom of the cheesecake mold.

  • For the cheesecake, mix together the cream cheese, whipped cream, sugar, and the left over Oreo cream you removed from the cookies

  • Then, prepare your two gelatine leaves and finally add the gelatine to the cream mix
  • Once all combined, quickly pour it on top of base and leave it to set in fridge for around half a day

  • For the topping, melt your chocolate and pour it on top of your solid cheesecake

  • Last but not least, decorate the top with some left over Oreo pieces

Dig in!

Vegetable Garden

Vegetable Garden

Makes: 1 serving per person per cracker

What you’ll need:

  • Radish
  • Baby carrots
  • Fresh herbs of your choosing
  • Garlic
  • Philadelphia cheese
  • Multigrain crackers

What to do:

  • First, mix your Philadelphia cheese with your freshly cut herbs and 1 clove of garlic
  • Spread the cream cheese mix on top of some of your crackers
  • Then chop off the ends of your carrots and radishes
  • Stick your vegetables right side up in the cream cheese
  • Take some of your extra crackers and crush them
  • Sprinkle the crumbs on top of the cream cheese so that your healthy snack looks like a vegetable garden
